Re: alumium boat seat replacement~what type of wood? yellow pine is strong and durable but nominal standard thickness is typically 3/4 inch or 1-1/2. another suggestion that may work is using 5/4 pressure treated decking boards. they're strong with a bull nosed edge and depending on the width of your seat you'll need more than one.. If your boat is a 14-foot aluminum john boat, then the old standard plastic seat attached with a swivel bolt will probably do. if you want to build a high-quality seat in a fine boat, then you may be interested which high-end woods that are best adapted to marine use..
